You can turn an otherwise healthy meal into a fatty, salty, sugar trap by adding the wrong condiments. Salad dressings, mayonnaise, butter, margarine and sour cream are full of saturated fats. Ketchup, BBQ sauce and many steak sauces are loaded down with sugar (many times it’s the second ingredient) and most of these examples contain high quantities of sodium as well.
So what’s a person to do???
Choose things like vinegar, mustard, fresh veggies, olive oil, yogurt or the newer healthy margarine versions. Also use herbs and spices to flavor your foods. Spice blends like Mrs. Dash can really turn up the flavor without adding sodium, sugar or fat!
